Jon Potter

Jon Potter, PhD, is a senior technical assistance consultant with the American Institutes for Research, where he provides consultation and support to state departments, regional networks, and school districts on the implementation of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). He has over twenty years of experience in education and has worked as a school psychologist, adjunct professor, and state-level MTSS implementation coach in early literacy, with extensive expertise in data-based decision making, problem-solving, intensive intervention, and early literacy instruction and assessment.

Potter is a co-author of Untangling Data-Based Decision Making: A Problem-Solving Model to Enhance MTSS, a practical guide for educators on using student data to drive decision making across MTSS tiers. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Denver and both a master’s degree in special education and a PhD in school psychology from the University of Oregon.
