Jon Tibke

Jon Tibke is a teacher, teacher educator and researcher with more than 25 years’ experience in secondary education, having begun his teaching career in Lancashire in 1982 and serving in four secondary schools, including six years as a deputy headteacher. He subsequently moved into initial teacher education, holding PGCE roles with the Open University, Edge Hill University and the University of Cumbria, before becoming a freelance teacher educator in 2014, leading professional development events for trainee, newly qualified and experienced teachers across England and Wales and internationally in India, Kazakhstan, Nepal and Qatar.

Tibke is the author of Why the Brain Matters: A Teacher Explores Neuroscience (SAGE/Corwin, 2019), a book that critically examines neuromyths and explores how findings from neuroscience relate to classroom practice. His doctoral research, completed in 2019, is titled The Case of Teachers and Neuroscience: How Do Teachers Mediate Information about the Brain?, and he has also co‑authored academic work on school‑based teacher educators and professional identity.
