Jonathan A. Wray

Jonathan A. Wray is a secondary mathematics leader and author whose work focuses on formative assessment and effective math instruction. He coauthored The Formative 5: Everyday Assessment Techniques for Every Math Classroom and its updated companion, The Formative 5 in Action, Grades K–12: Updated and Expanded From The Formative 5: Everyday Assessment Techniques for Every Math Classroom, both published by Corwin, with Francis (Skip) Fennell and Beth McCord Kobett. He is also listed as a coauthor of the 10th edition of Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally, a widely used text for PreK–8 mathematics teaching, alongside John A. Van de Walle, Karen S. Karp, Jennifer M. Bay-Williams, and others.

Wray has served in mathematics leadership roles in the Howard County Public School System in Maryland, including work as a coordinator or instructional facilitator for secondary mathematics programs. His classroom and district experience spans roles such as primary and intermediate grades classroom teacher, gifted/talented resource teacher, and elementary mathematics resource teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Towson University and a master’s degree in Educational Technology from Johns Hopkins University, along with an Administrator II certificate.
