Jonathan Haidt

Jonathan Haidt is an American social psychologist and author who serves as the Thomas Cooley Professor of Ethical Leadership at New York University’s Stern School of Business. He received his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and taught for sixteen years in the Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia before joining NYU. His research focuses on moral and political psychology, particularly the psychology of morality and moral emotions.

Haidt is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness (2024), which examines how smartphones, social media, and changes in parenting have contributed to rising rates of anxiety and depression among young people. He is also the author of The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom and The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion, and co-author of The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure with Greg Lukianoff.
