José A. Montelongo
José A. Montelongo, Ph.D., is a senior program specialist at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico and a retired school librarian. He has taught reading and served as a school librarian in El Paso for more than fifteen years before becoming a college librarian, teacher educator, and educational researcher. He holds degrees in experimental psychology, education, and library science from the University of Texas at El Paso, New Mexico State University, and the University of Texas at Austin, respectively.
Montelongo’s research and writing focus on Spanish–English cognate vocabulary, reading expository text, and school librarianship. He is coauthor of Teaching Cognates/Cognados Through Picture Books: Resources for Fostering Spanish–English Vocabulary Connections (Brookes Publishing, 2023), as well as articles on teaching English–Spanish cognates through picture books and award-winning children’s literature.
