Joseph Assof

Joseph Michael Assof is a high school and community college mathematics teacher and math department chair at Health Sciences High and Middle College in San Diego, California. He teaches 11th and 12th grade mathematics, leads his department’s reform efforts to align with the Common Core State Standards with a focus on high-quality instruction, and has participated in regional leadership as a member of the San Diego County Math Leaders Task Force. He also works as an educational consultant, presenting internationally on topics including teacher clarity, mathematics teaching and learning, and visible learning, and his classroom has been featured in multiple Visible Learning for Mathematics, Grades K–12 videos.

Assof holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and a doctorate in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Mathematics Teacher Leadership. He is a coauthor of several Corwin mathematics and instructional titles, including Teaching Mathematics in the Visible Learning Classroom, Grades 6–8, Teaching Mathematics in the Visible Learning Classroom, High School, The Teacher Clarity Playbook, Grades K–12: A Hands-On Guide to Creating Learning Intentions and Success Criteria for Organized, Effective Instruction, and Whose Math Is It?: Building Student Ownership in Mathematics.
