Joseph Bruchac

Joseph Bruchac is a writer, poet, and traditional storyteller born in Greenfield Center, New York, in 1942. He is a citizen and member of the Elders Council of the Nulhegan Abenaki Nation, and his work often focuses on Indigenous peoples of the Americas, especially Northeastern Native American life and folklore.

Bruchac earned a B.A. from Cornell University, an M.A. from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in comparative literature from the Union Institute of Ohio. He has authored more than 120 books for adults and children, including The Powwow Treasure and Squanto’s Journey: The Story of the First Thanksgiving, as well as The First Strawberries, Keepers of the Earth (with Michael Caduto), and Bowman’s Store: A Journey to Myself.
