Josh Tyrangiel is an American journalist, producer, and author of AI for Good: How Real People Are Using Artificial Intelligence to Fix Things That Matter, published by Simon & Schuster in 2026. He is a staff writer at The Atlantic, where he writes about artificial intelligence and its impact on society, and previously wrote an AI-focused column for The Washington Post. His book AI for Good draws on reporting across sectors such as healthcare, education, and public services to show how practitioners are using AI to solve concrete problems while keeping human judgment at the center.
Over a three-decade career, Tyrangiel has held senior editorial roles at major media organizations, including serving as editor of Bloomberg Businessweek and chief content officer of Bloomberg Media, and earlier as deputy managing editor of TIME and managing editor of TIME.com. He led the launch of “VICE News Tonight” on HBO as executive vice president of news at Vice Media and has produced award‑winning documentaries for HBO, Netflix, and Apple TV+. Tyrangiel has received multiple Emmy and Peabody Awards for his work and holds an M.A. in American Studies from Yale University and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.[
