Joshua A. Douglas

Joshua A. Douglas is the Associate Dean for Research, the J. David Rosenberg Professor of Law, and a University Research Professor at the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law, where he teaches and writes about election law, voting rights, constitutional law, civil procedure, and judicial decision-making. His research focuses on the constitutional right to vote, including state constitutions and local voting laws, as well as procedural aspects of election law cases and vote-counting rules and disputes. He has received teaching recognition at the University of Kentucky, including the Duncan Teaching Award.

Douglas is the author of The Court v. The Voters: The Troubling Story of How the Supreme Court Has Undermined Voting Rights (Beacon Press, 2024), which examines key U.S. Supreme Court decisions and their impact on voting rights, and of Vote for US: How to Take Back Our Elections and Change the Future of Voting, a book on election reform and democratic participation. He frequently speaks and writes about the future of voting rights and the Supreme Court’s role in shaping the rules of American democracy.
