Judie Haynes
Judie Haynes is an experienced ESL (English as a Second Language) educator, author, and professional development consultant who taught elementary English learners for 28 years in urban and suburban schools in the United States. She has provided extensive professional learning across the country on working with English learners, particularly those who have experienced trauma, violence, and chronic stress, and has supported school districts in designing and implementing curriculum for these students. Haynes is the cofounder and comoderator of #ELLCHAT, a widely known Twitter chat for teachers of English learners, and has written a regular blog for TESOL as well as serving as a columnist for TESOL’s publication Essential Teacher.
Haynes is the author or coauthor of multiple books for educators of English learners, including Teaching to Strengths: Supporting Students Living with Trauma, Violence, and Chronic Stress (with Debbie Zacarian and Lourdes Alvarez-Ortiz), The Essential Guide for Educating Beginning English Learners, Teaching English Language Learners Across the Content Areas, and Getting Started with English Language Learners.
