Judith A. Cohen

Judith A. Cohen, MD, is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and a co-developer of Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based treatment for traumatized children, adolescents, and their caregivers. She serves as Medical Director of the Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is a Professor of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine. Her clinical and research interests focus on child trauma, child maltreatment, and childhood traumatic grief.

Cohen is co-author of the book Treating Trauma and Traumatic Grief in Children and Adolescents (first and second editions), written with Anthony P. Mannarino and Esther Deblinger, which presents a systematic TF-CBT–based approach for assessing and treating posttraumatic stress and traumatic grief in youth. She is also co-author of Trauma-Focused CBT for Children and Adolescents: Treatment Applications, further elaborating clinical applications of TF-CBT. In addition to her books, Cohen has published extensively on TF-CBT and childhood traumatic grief in peer-reviewed journals, including landmark articles on trauma-focused CBT components and on treating childhood traumatic grief.
