Julia E. Torres

Julia E. Torres is a nationally recognized language arts teacher, librarian, and teen programs administrator based in Denver, Colorado. She is a veteran educator who has worked with students in grades 6–12 and focuses on developing literacy programs that center equity, access, and education as a practice of liberation. Torres frequently facilitates teacher development workshops and professional learning on antiracist education, culturally sustaining pedagogy, and using literacy to inspire resistance and positive social change.

Torres is the coauthor of Seasons of Literacy: A Monthly Guide to Growing Lifelong Readers and Writers (an educator’s yearlong literacy planning guide), published by Solution Tree, and Liven Up Your Library: Design Engaging and Inclusive Programs for Tweens and Teens, published by ISTE. She is active in national organizations and has served in roles including NCTE Secondary Representative-at-Large, EduColor Collective steering committee member, Book Love Foundation board member, and Educator Collaborative Book Ambassador, advocating for educational equity and inclusive literacy practices.
