Julia Lopez-Robertson

Julia López-Robertson is a Professor of Teacher Education in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina, where she focuses on literacy, bilingual/multilingual students, and preparing teachers for diverse, equitable classrooms. A former early childhood bilingual teacher with many years of classroom experience, she grounds her scholarship in culturally relevant children’s literature and the connections between home and school literacies, particularly for Latinx and emerging bilingual students and their families.

López-Robertson earned a Ph.D. in Language, Reading, and Culture and an M.A. in Bilingual/Multicultural Education from the University of Arizona, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Northeastern University. She is the author of Celebrating Our Cuentos: Choosing and Using Latinx Literature in Elementary Classrooms, which guides educators in selecting and using Latinx children’s and young adult literature to support engaged, authentic literacy learning in elementary settings, as well as Re-envisioning Family Engagement and Literacy in Early Childhood Classrooms.
