Julie Nora
Julie Nora is an educator and author focused on improving outcomes for English learners. She is the coauthor of No More Low Expectations for English Learners (Not This, But That series, Heinemann, 2016), written with Jana Echevarría and edited by Nell K. Duke and Ellin Oliver Keene. In this work, Nora provides practical strategies and instructional supports to help teachers set high expectations for multilingual students and promote both language development and content learning.
Nora has served as Director of the International Charter School (ICS) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island since 2003. Prior to this role, she worked as a teacher of ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) in K–16 educational settings and as an applied researcher at the Education Alliance at Brown University. She holds a B.A. in U.S. Intellectual History from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.A. in TESOL from San Francisco State University, and a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Language, Literacy, and Culture from the joint program of the University of Rhode Island/Rhode Island College (completed in 2007).
