Julie Stern

Julie Stern is a bestselling author, educator, and instructional coach known for her work on concept-based curriculum and learning transfer. She is the author of Tools for Teaching Conceptual Understanding, Elementary and Tools for Teaching Conceptual Understanding, Secondary, co-author of Visible Learning for Social Studies, Grades K–12: Designing Student Learning for Conceptual Understanding, and a co-author of Learning That Transfers: Designing Curriculum for a Changing World.

Stern has extensive experience supporting schools around the world in transforming teaching and learning, particularly in areas such as visible learning, concept-based curriculum, differentiated classrooms, and formative assessment. She is certified in John Hattie’s Visible Learning framework and in H. Lynn Erickson’s Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction, and previously taught social studies for many years in Washington, DC and Louisiana. A James Madison Constitutional Scholar, she also served as director of public policy and curriculum innovation at Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools in Washington, DC, where she led curriculum revision for grades 6–12.
