Justin Baeder

Justin Baeder, PhD, is the director of The Principal Center, where he helps school and district leaders build capacity for instructional leadership. A former principal in Seattle Public Schools, he created the 21-Day Instructional Leadership Challenge, which has supported more than 10,000 school leaders in over 50 countries in developing a consistent habit of classroom visits and evidence-based conversations with teachers. He holds a PhD in Educational Leadership & Policy from the University of Washington and hosts Principal Center Radio, interviewing education thought leaders on leadership and school improvement.

Baeder is the author of Now We’re Talking! 21 Days to High-Performance Instructional Leadership and co-author of Cultivate & Activate: Building Teacher Capacity for Instructional Leadership, as well as Mapping Professional Practice: How to Develop Instructional Frameworks to Support Teacher Growth. His books and professional learning work focus on classroom walkthroughs, instructional frameworks, and building teacher and leader capacity to improve teaching and learning.
