Kara Pranikoff

Kara Pranikoff is an educator, writer, and educational coach based in New York City, with more than two decades of experience in public schools. She has worked as a classroom teacher, reading interventionist, instructional coach, curriculum designer, and adjunct instructor at Bank Street College of Education, and is known for supporting inquiry-based, culturally relevant teaching in literacy, social studies, and writing. She holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in English literature and a Master of Arts in elementary education and teaching.

Pranikoff is the author of Teaching Talk: A Practical Guide to Fostering Student Thinking and Conversation (2017), a classroom-focused resource on using student discussion to deepen learning and foster independent, productive talk in elementary and middle school settings. Alongside her consulting work as a diversity, equity, and inclusion and literacy coach in New York City schools, she speaks at national conferences on nurturing student voice, thinking, and classroom conversation.
