Karen Johannesen Brock
Dr. Karen Johannesen Brock is an educator, school leader, and educational consultant with more than three decades of experience in K–12 education. She has worked with over one hundred schools and districts on implementing school improvement plans, with a focus on instructional coaching and design, professional learning plans, school-improvement planning, English learners and multilingual students, and literacy. She has served as both an elementary and secondary teacher in general and special education, has taught university courses in educational leadership, school data, professional learning, and K–12 literacy, and currently serves as an elementary principal in the Provo City School District in Utah. Dr. Brock holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University and an additional master’s degree and a PhD in Educational Research Methods from Oxford University.
Brock is the author of Coaching for Multilingual Student Success: Intentional Practices to Accelerate Learning and Close Achievement Gaps, published by Solution Tree Press, which draws on her extensive work in instructional coaching and school improvement for multilingual learners. Her research and writing also include peer‑reviewed work on school improvement and educational research methods, and her consulting and speaking emphasize organizational change, leadership development, and data-informed school improvement focused on multilingual and emergent English learners.
