Karen L. Mapp

Karen L. Mapp, Ed.D., is a Professor of Practice and the William and Miriam Meehan Professor in Adult Learning and Professional Development at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she has also served as a senior lecturer and faculty director of the Education Policy and Management master’s program. For more than two decades, her research and practice have focused on developing family–school–community partnerships that support student achievement and school improvement, work that has included service as a consultant on family engagement to the U.S. Department of Education and leadership roles in national networks and foundations dedicated to family and community engagement.

Mapp is the author and co-author of several influential works on family engagement, including Everyone Wins! The Evidence for Family-School Partnerships and Implications for Practice, and Powerful Partnerships: A Teacher’s Guide to Engaging Families for Student Success, as well as the widely cited Beyond the Bake Sale: The Essential Guide to Family-School Partnerships and the Dual Capacity-Building Framework for Family-School Partnerships. She holds a doctorate and master’s of education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a master’s in education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Trinity College (Hartford, Connecticut).
