Kate Roberts

Kate Roberts is a national literacy consultant, author, and keynote speaker known for her practical, student-centered approach to reading and writing instruction. She began her career teaching middle school language arts in Brooklyn, New York, later working as a literacy coach and then as a Lead Staff Developer at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, a role she held for approximately eleven years while supporting teachers, coaches, and administrators across the country. She holds an MA in English Education and has worked nationally and internationally with schools and districts to develop strong, skill- and strategy-based literacy practices.

Roberts is the author of A Novel Approach: Whole-Class Novels, Student-Centered Teaching, and Choice and The Heart of Fiction: Reading for Character, Theme, and Craft. She is also co-author of Falling in Love with Close Reading: Lessons for Analyzing Texts—and Life with Christopher Lehman and DIY Literacy: Teaching Tools for Differentiation, Rigor, and Independence with Maggie Beattie Roberts, as well as co-author of two Units of Study books on literary essay. In addition to her books, she co-writes the education blog “indent” and has published plays and a young adult novel, work that further reflects her commitment to helping all students become insightful, engaged readers and writers.[11
