Katherine E. Lewis

Katherine E. Lewis is an associate professor in the College of Education at the University of Washington, where her work sits at the intersection of mathematics education and special education, with a particular focus on mathematical learning disabilities (MLDs) and dyscalculia. Her research emphasizes understanding disability as a cognitive difference rather than a deficit, examining students’ mathematical thinking in authentic learning environments, evaluating the accessibility of instruction, and designing individualized remediation approaches.

Lewis is the lead author of Exploring Dyscalculia: Learning From and Supporting Students, co‑written with Amy Anderson and Dylan Lynn, which offers an assets‑based perspective on students with dyscalculia and guidance for educators in identifying access barriers and providing meaningful supports.
