Kathy Collins

Kathy Collins is an educator, author, and consultant specializing in early literacy instruction. She is the coauthor, with Matt Glover, of I Am Reading: Nurturing Young Children’s Meaning Making and Joyful Engagement with Any Book and the coauthor, with Janine Bempechat, of No More Mindless Homework. Collins is also the author of Growing Readers: Units of Study in Primary Classrooms and Reading for Real: Teach Children to Read With Power, Intention, and Joy in K–3 Classrooms, and has worked closely with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University.

Collins presents at conferences and works with schools internationally to support teachers in developing high-quality, effective literacy instruction from early childhood through the middle grades. She previously taught first grade in Brooklyn, New York, and lives with her family in Durham, New Hampshire.
