Kathy Lopes

Kathy Lopes is a licensed clinical social worker, educator, and director of diversity, equity, and inclusion for Newton Public Schools in Massachusetts, where she leads district-wide efforts to develop antiracist school cultures across its schools. She is an adjunct faculty member at Simmons University School of Social Work, teaching courses on racism and oppression, and has held administrative and clinical roles in education, mental health, nonprofit, and government sectors, including work in schools in Boston and Washington, D.C., and at the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

Lopes is the co-author of _Change the Narrative: How to Foster an Antiracist Culture in Your School_, published in 2022 with co-author Henry J. Turner, principal of Newton North High School. She is also the founder of inKlusion – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Consulting Services, serves as Vice President of the National Association of Black Social Workers, and is the inaugural 1st Vice President of the Association of Massachusetts School Equity Leaders (AMSEL). Lopes is widely recognized as a speaker on cultural humility, racial identity, equity, and antiracism in education and mental health settings.
