Katie Kelly

Katie Kelly is a Professor of Education at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where she teaches and researches meaningful literacy practices that foster critically curious and compassionate lifelong readers and writers. A former teacher and literacy coach, she serves as Coordinator of the Literacy Graduate Program and teaches courses in elementary literacy methods, literacy assessment and instruction, and practicum with an emphasis on literacy coaching.

Kelly is the co-author of several professional books for educators, including Reading to Make a Difference: Using Literature to Help Students Speak Freely, Think Deeply, and Take Action (Heinemann), Smuggling Writing: Strategies That Get Students to Write Every Day, in Every Content Area, Grades 3–12 (Corwin), and Critical Comprehension [Grades K–6]: Lessons for Guiding Students to Deeper Meaning (Corwin). Her additional co-authored works include From Pencils to Podcasts: Digital Tools to Transform K–12 Literacy Practices and From Empathy to Action: Empowering K–6 Students to Create Change through Reading, Writing, and Research.
