Katie Pace Miles
Katie Pace Miles, Ph.D., is an associate professor and Director of the Advanced Certificates in Reading Science at Brooklyn College, City University of New York (CUNY). Her research focuses on orthographic mapping, high-frequency word learning, reading interventions, and literacy instruction that is developmentally appropriate and grounded in the science of reading. She is the founder and president of The Reading Institute, where she provides science-of-reading–aligned professional development and free evidence-based tutoring to striving readers, and the co-founder and principal investigator of CUNY Reading Corps, which offers high-dosage structured literacy tutoring to thousands of historically underserved New York City students each year.
Miles is coauthor of Making Words Stick: A Four-Step Instructional Routine to Power Up Orthographic Mapping (The Science of Reading in Practice), a teacher-friendly guide that helps educators connect decoding, encoding, and meaning through a four-step routine to support orthographic mapping in K–5 readers. She is also the author of Reading Ready and Reading Ready for Whole Phonics, and serves as academic advisor to the Reading Rescue/Reading Go evidence-based intervention programs. In addition to her books, she is a frequent speaker and podcast guest on topics including orthographic mapping, reading interventions, and MTSS/RTI for struggling readers.
