Katie Upshaw

Katie Upshaw is a preschool special education teacher in the Metuchen School District in New Jersey. She also serves as a teacher leader, union representative, chair of her school’s leadership team, and participant in district committees. Upshaw has provided professional training on social-emotional learning and metacognition at district, national, and international levels.

She is a coauthor of The Metacognitive Preschooler: How to Teach Academic, Social, and Emotional Intelligence to Your Youngest Students, published by Solution Tree Press in 2024. The book presents a metacognitive “structured SELf-questioning” strategy for developing preschoolers’ social-emotional competencies and academic problem-solving skills.
