Katrin Blamey

Katrin L. Blamey, Ph.D., is a Professor of Education and Associate Dean of the School of Education at DeSales University, where she chairs the education department and coordinates the Early Childhood and Elementary Education Program. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as early childhood foundations, literacy methods, reading assessment, and children’s literature, with primary interests in developmentally appropriate teaching practices, vocabulary instruction, literacy for struggling readers, and elementary education methods.

Blamey holds a Ph.D. in literacy from the University of Delaware and has professional experience as a literacy coach in a Head Start organization, focusing on early childhood education and vocabulary development for children living in poverty. She is co-author of Starting Strong: Evidence-Based Early Literacy Practices, which presents four research-based instructional approaches for early literacy, and has also co-authored Effective Read-Alouds for Early Literacy: A Teacher’s Guide for PreK–1 and The Science of Reading in the Preschool Classroom: Practical Tools for Early Childhood Teachers.
