Kelly Johnson
Kelly Johnson, PhD, is a faculty member in teacher education at San Diego State University and a classroom teacher and instructional coach at Health Sciences High and Middle College in San Diego. She is a National Board–certified teacher in adolescence and young adulthood/English language arts, and her work focuses on assessment and small-group guided instruction in literacy classrooms.
Johnson previously taught grades 1–6, served as a peer coach and reading intervention teacher, and has appeared in instructional videos on teacher modeling, assessment and instruction, effective grouping, and writing instruction. She has published in The Reading Teacher, The California Reader, The Reading Professor, and Literacy, and has coauthored books including Mining Complex Text, Grades 6-12: Using and Creating Graphic Organizers to Grasp Content and Share New Understandings and several Corwin On-Your-Feet Guide titles on guided reading, interactive read-alouds, shared reading, and interactive writing.
