Kelsey Marie Corter
Kelsey Sorum (also known in some sources as Kelsey Corter) is a kindergarten teacher and literacy educator who co-authored The Responsive Writing Teacher, Grades K–5: A Hands-On Guide to Child-Centered, Equitable Instruction with Melanie Meehan. In this book, she focuses on responsive, child-centered approaches to teaching young writers and supporting equitable writing instruction across the elementary grades.
A Wisconsin native, Sorum previously taught first grade in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin before moving to New York City to be closer to the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) and progressive literacy teaching in public schools. She teaches kindergarten at P.S. 59, a TCRWP model literacy school, where her classroom emphasizes play, inquiry, choice, inclusion, and helping students see themselves as joyful writers. Sorum has contributed to the Two Writing Teachers blog and shares her classroom reflections through her blog Small Steps and on social media, including Twitter (@kelsey_corter) and Instagram (@theorganicclassroom).
