Kevin Noble Maillard

Kevin Noble Maillard is an American law professor, journalist, and children’s author, best known for the picture book Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story, illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal, which won the Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal and was named an American Indian Youth Literature Picture Book Honor. He is a tenured Professor of Law at Syracuse University, where his work focuses on family law, civil liberties, and issues of race, sex, and family, and he is the co-editor of Loving v. Virginia in a Post-Racial World: Rethinking Race, Sex, and Marriage (Cambridge University Press, 2012). A regular and former contributing writer for The New York Times, Maillard has also written for The Atlantic, Essence, and The Week and has appeared as an on-air commentator for outlets including MSNBC, CNN, ABC, and Al Jazeera.

Originally from Oklahoma, Maillard is an enrolled citizen of the Seminole Nation, Mekusukey Band, and he draws on his heritage and childhood experiences in his writing, including Fry Bread.
