Kim Marshall

Kim Marshall is an education consultant, writer, and former Boston Public Schools educator best known for his work on teacher supervision and evaluation. Over a 32-year career in Boston, he served as a sixth-grade teacher, central office curriculum director/administrator, and elementary school principal, including 15 years leading Mather Elementary School, where he and his colleagues worked to improve student achievement, teaching quality, and curriculum. Since leaving the Boston Public Schools in 2002, he has coached principals (often in partnership with New Leaders), taught courses and led workshops on instructional leadership, and consulted widely on topics such as teacher evaluation, time management, curriculum unit design, assessment use, and results-focused teacher teamwork.

Marshall is the author of several books and numerous articles on teaching and school leadership, including multiple editions of Rethinking Teacher Supervision and Evaluation, a widely cited guide to redesigning teacher evaluation around coaching, continuous improvement, and student learning. He also created and publishes the weekly Marshall Memo, a newsletter that synthesizes research and best practices from dozens of K–12 education publications for frontline educators, and he is co-author of The Best of the Marshall Memo volumes.
