Kirstin Milks

Dr. Kirstin J. Milks is a science teacher at Bloomington High School South in Bloomington, Indiana, where she teaches AP Biology and introductory science and serves as a STEM team coach and mentor. She holds a PhD in biochemistry from Stanford University’s School of Medicine and an MA from Stanford’s School of Education, and is a National Board Certified Teacher, a Knowles Senior Fellow, and a 2019 recipient of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Milks is the co-author of Place-Based Science Teaching: Connecting Students to Curriculum, Community, and Caring for Our Planet, published by Corwin, which offers K–12 educators a framework and classroom-ready lessons for place-based science instruction. She is also co-editor of Social Action Stories, a collection focused on high-impact storytelling for classrooms and communities. In addition to her classroom work, Milks has contributed to national conversations on science education through mentoring early-career teachers and collaborating with university partners to design authentic science learning experiences.
