Kourtney Hake
Kourtney Hake is an English teacher at Sparta Lincoln School in Sparta, Illinois, and has taught English at multiple levels since 2014, including eighth-grade ELA, high school English, and first-year college writing. She is a member of the National Council for Teachers of English, the Illinois Reading Council, and the Illinois Association of Teachers of English, and her research focuses on Shakespeare’s female characters in the modern secondary classroom.
Hake graduated magna cum laude from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a bachelor’s degree in English education and a minor in speech communication, and later earned a master’s degree in American and English literature from the same university. She is the coauthor, with Paige Timmerman, of Their Stories, Their Voices: Using Personal Narrative to Empower Student Writers, Grades 6–12.
