Kristi Latimer
Kristi Latimer is a high school instructional support teacher on special assignment (TOSA) and instructional coach at Tigard High School in the Tigard-Tualatin School District in Oregon. She has taught English language arts at Tigard High School for 19 years and supports grades 9–12 health and 6–12 English language arts, drawing on training in IB, AVID, trauma-informed practices, and language-learning protocols. Latimer earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Reed College and her Master’s in Teaching from Lewis & Clark College.
Latimer is co-author of Beyond the Five-Paragraph Essay (Stenhouse, 2012), written with Kimberly Hill Campbell. In this book, Campbell and Latimer examine research on the five-paragraph essay and argue that the formula restricts creativity, emphasizes structure over content, and does not adequately prepare students for college-level writing.
