Lane Smith

Lane Smith is an American author and illustrator of children’s books, born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and raised in Southern California. He earned a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and began his career as a freelance illustrator for publications including TIME and Rolling Stone.

Smith has authored and illustrated books including It’s a Book, Grandpa Green, and There Is a Tribe of Kids. His collaborations with Jon Scieszka include The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and the Caldecott Honor–winning The Stinky Cheese Man. Smith has received two Caldecott Honors, the Kate Greenaway Medal, the Eric Carle Museum’s recognition for lifelong innovation in children’s books, and the Society of Illustrators’ Lifetime Achievement Award.
