Larry Ferlazzo is an educator, writer, and blogger known for his work supporting English language learners and their teachers. He taught English, social studies, and International Baccalaureate classes to English language learners and mainstream students for more than two decades at Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento, California. Before becoming a public school teacher, he spent many years working as a community organizer. He is the author or coauthor of numerous education books, including The ELL Teacher’s Toolbox: Hundreds of Practical Ideas to Support Your Students, The ELL Teacher’s Toolbox 2.0: Hundreds of Practical Ideas to Support Your Students, and The ESL/ELL Teacher’s Survival Guide: Ready-to-Use Strategies, Tools, and Activities for Teaching All Levels.
Ferlazzo writes widely on education, motivation, classroom management, and English language learning. He maintains the long-running blog Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites of the Day, a popular resource for teachers, and since 2010 has written the Classroom Q & A opinion blog for Education Week, featuring contributions from hundreds of educators. His work has received multiple honors, including the Leadership for a Changing World Award from the Ford Foundation and the International Reading Association Award for Technology and Reading.
