Latrenda D. Knighten
Latrenda Knighten is President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) for the 2024–2026 term and a retired mathematics curriculum supervisor from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She has worked in mathematics education for more than 30 years, including roles as a classroom teacher, elementary science specialist, elementary mathematics coach, district instructional coach, mathematics content trainer, and mathematics supervisor.
Knighten earned a B.A. in Psychology and Early Childhood Education from Tulane University’s Newcomb College and a master’s degree in Educational Technology Leadership from Northwestern State University. Her books include Classroom-Ready Rich Math Tasks, Grades K-1, Answers to Your Biggest Questions About Teaching Elementary Math: Five to Thrive, and Proactive Mathematics Interventions, Grades 2-5.
