Laura González

Laura González is a Mexican illustrator and children’s book artist, known for her work on the picture book Not a Monster, written by Claudia Guadalupe Martínez and published by Charlesbridge in 2023. She illustrated both the original English edition and the Spanish edition, No es un monstruo, which follow two young conservationists as they explore the life cycle of the axolotl.

González was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and has described growing up in an industrial city surrounded by mountains, where she began drawing her own stories inspired by her pets. Her watercolor artwork for Not a Monster has received critical recognition, including a Blueberry Honor for nonfiction picture books and selection by Bank Street College of Education as one of the Best Children’s Books of the Year. She has also illustrated other children’s titles such as Not a Bean, Not a Dog, and The Dia de Los Muertos Story.
