Lauren Madden

Lauren Madden is a professor of elementary and early childhood science education at The College of New Jersey, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate science teaching methods and capstone courses. She holds a B.A. in Earth Sciences–Oceanography from the University of New Hampshire, an M.S. in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. in Science Education from North Carolina State University. Her work centers on K–12 climate change and environmental education, and she coordinates The College of New Jersey’s environmental sustainability education minor and graduate certificate in environmental sustainability and education.

Madden is coauthor of What Teachers Want to Know About Teaching Climate Change: An Educator’s Guide to Nurturing Hope and Resilience (Grades K–12) and has written, edited, or co-edited multiple other books along with more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on science education. She has been recognized as the Outstanding Science Teacher Educator of the Year by the Association for Science Teacher Education and as an Outstanding Environmental Educator in Higher Education in New Jersey. Her expertise in climate change education has been featured by outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, NPR, and the Star-Ledger, and she serves as field editor
