Laurie E. Cutting

Laurie E. Cutting, PhD, is the Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Neuroscience at Vanderbilt University, with appointments in Special Education, Psychology and Human Development, Radiology, and Pediatrics. She is also Associate Director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, a member of the Vanderbilt Brain Institute, and training faculty for Vanderbilt’s Neuroscience PhD program.

Her research focuses on brain-behavior relations in children and adolescents, especially reading development, reading disabilities, language, executive function, and other learning disorders. Before joining Vanderbilt, she was a research scientist at Kennedy Krieger Institute and held faculty appointments at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins University. Cutting earned a doctorate in communication sciences and disorders from Northwestern University after earlier study at American University and has authored and co-authored numerous articles in her field, including Handbook of Learning Disabilities.
