Laurie Kincheloe

Laurie Kincheloe is a mathematics educator and co-author of Math Wise! Over 100 Hands-On Activities that Promote Real Math Understanding, Grades K–8 (Second Edition), published in 2010 as part of the Jossey-Bass Teacher series. She holds a B.A. in mathematics and an M.A. in mathematics education from California State University, Chico, and taught high school mathematics for twelve years before becoming a mathematics instructor at Butte College in northern California, a position she has held since the early 1990s.

In addition to her college teaching, Kincheloe has worked with K–12 students and teachers in various settings, bringing a hands-on, activity-based approach to math instruction that emphasizes conceptual understanding over rote computation. This practical classroom experience informs the activities in Math Wise!, which are designed to help elementary and middle-school students build a concrete grasp of key math concepts aligned with typical curricula and standardized assessments.
