Leah Rugen

Leah Rugen is an educator and consultant whose work has focused on school reform, student-engaged assessment, and collaborative learning. She is co-author of Leaders of Their Own Learning: Transforming Schools Through Student-Engaged Assessment, developed with EL Education and published by Jossey-Bass, which outlines practices such as student-led conferences and celebrations of learning to help students take ownership of their academic progress.

Rugen’s professional experience includes roles as Program Director for National Turning Points and Director of Publications at the Center for Collaborative Education, Associate Director and school designer with Expeditionary Learning, and Associate Program Director for Education at New York City Outward Bound, following earlier work as an English teacher at Pelham Memorial High School. She holds an MAT in English and Education and a BA from Wesleyan University.
