Lee Heffernan

Lee Heffernan is an educator and literacy worker in Bloomington, Indiana, and has worked as an elementary teacher for 25 years. According to a public professional profile, she also coached teachers for four years to help develop literacy programs and earned a PhD in Language, Literacy and Culture from Indiana University Bloomington.

Heffernan is the author of Back and Forth: Using an Editor’s Mindset to Improve Student Writing, published by Heinemann in 2017. The book presents an approach to writing instruction that asks teachers to act as classroom editors and is aimed at supporting student writers in grades 2–6.
