Leslie E. Laud

Leslie E. Laud, EdD, is the Director of thinkSRSD, an educational consulting group focused on evidence-based writing instruction. She holds a doctorate in curriculum and teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she has also taught teacher education courses, and has served as Adjunct Professor at Bank Street College of Education and Columbia University. Laud has worked in both general and special education classrooms, served as a school principal and literacy specialist, and consults nationally and internationally with schools, districts, and state departments of education on implementing research-based writing practices.

A leading science-of-writing and Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) expert, Laud is the author of Executive Skills and Writing Instruction: Developing Self-Regulated, Thinking Writers and Releasing Writers: Evidence-Based Strategies for Developing Self-Regulated Writers, and coauthor of Releasing Readers: Evidence-Based Practices for Teaching Close Reading and Using Formative Assessment to Differentiate Middle School Literacy Instruction. She has served as Principal Investigator on federally funded research grants, publishes empirical studies on writing instruction in peer-reviewed journals, and presents frequently at conferences such as Learning & the Brain, the Society for Scientific Studies of Reading, the International Literacy Association, and the National Council of Teachers of English.
