Lewis Raven Wallace

Lewis Raven Wallace is an award-winning independent journalist, author, and activist based in Durham, North Carolina. They are the author of Radical Unlearning: The Art and Science of Creating Change from Within (Beacon Press, 2025), which weaves trauma psychology, neuroplasticity, and decades of community organizing experience to explore how people and communities can unlearn harmful beliefs and transform patterns of harm. Wallace previously authored The View from Somewhere: Undoing the Myth of Journalistic Objectivity (University of Chicago Press, 2019), a critical history of journalistic “objectivity” and its role in marginalizing dissenting and underrepresented voices.

Wallace hosts The View from Somewhere podcast and is a co-founder and co-director of Press On, a Southern media collective focused on movement journalism and racial justice. Their journalism career has included work in public radio at outlets such as WBEZ/Chicago Public Media, WYSO in Ohio, and Marketplace, where they joined the on-air team for the Marketplace Morning Report. They currently serve as an Abolition Journalism Fellow at Interrupting Criminalization and are a PhD student in history, while continuing long-term activism in prison abolition, racial justice, and queer and trans liberation.
