Linda C. Mayes, MD, is the Arnold Gesell Professor of Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Psychology at the Yale School of Medicine and Director of the Yale Child Study Center. She is a pediatrician and child and adult psychoanalyst whose research focuses on stress-response and regulatory mechanisms in young children, especially in the context of biological and psychosocial risk, including prenatal substance exposure.
Mayes is the author of The Educator’s Guide to Understanding Child Development: Supporting Healthy Academic and Emotional Growth and previously wrote The Yale Child Study Center Guide to Understanding Your Child. Yale and Scholastic describe the educator-focused book as based on her earlier work for families, adapted to help inform educators’ practice with a foundation in child development.
