Lorena Alvarez Gomez
Lorena Alvarez Gómez is a Colombian freelance illustrator, comic artist, and children’s book creator born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. She studied graphic design (often also described as graphic design and arts) at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and has worked for more than fifteen years in children’s books, independent publications, advertising, and fashion magazines. Based in Bogotá, she is an Eisner Award–nominated artist whose work is strongly influenced by color and by the experiences and atmosphere of the Catholic school she attended as a child. Since 2008, she has also been part of La Procesión Puppet Club, an experimental puppetry group of illustrators and visual artists.
As an author and illustrator, Alvarez Gómez is best known for her original graphic novels Nightlights (2017) and Hicotea (2019), which form the Nightlights series.
