Louise El Yaafouri
Louise El Yaafouri is an educator and cultural competency consultant specializing in multilingual education, trauma-informed practice, and culturally responsive pedagogy for refugee, immigrant, and recently arrived students. She is the founder and owner of DiversifiED Consulting, where she provides action-oriented professional development, curriculum design, and systems support to schools, districts, and community organizations serving culturally and linguistically diverse, trauma-impacted communities. A “recent arriver” herself, she is recognized as an expert in culturally responsive education and trauma-informed community engagement and regularly delivers keynotes and professional learning sessions in the United States and internationally.
El Yaafouri is the author of Restoring Students’ Innate Power: Trauma-Responsive Strategies for Teaching Multilingual Newcomers (ASCD, 2022), which examines the effects of trauma and transition shock on newcomer students and offers practical, stress-mitigating strategies to support their agency and belonging in school. She has also written other education-related books and numerous articles, contributing regularly to outlets such as ASCD and Edutopia on topics including refugee and immigrant family engagement, newcomer education, and trauma-responsive practices for emergent multilingual learners.
