Lourdes Alvarez-Ortiz
Lourdes Alvarez-Ortiz, PhD, is a bilingual/bicultural school psychologist and educational consultant with more than two decades of experience working in inner-city school districts serving culturally and linguistically diverse students and families. Her work focuses on trauma-sensitive, strengths-based, and culturally responsive practices, and she has supported teachers, administrators, and school systems in improving outcomes for underserved students.
She is a coauthor of Teaching to Strengths: Supporting Students Living with Trauma, Violence, and Chronic Stress with Debbie Zacarian and Judie Haynes. ASCD describes her as having helped lead education reform initiatives in Massachusetts and Connecticut, including a comprehensive school turnaround effort at William Dean Technical High School.
