Marguerite W. Penick-Parks

Marguerite W. Penick-Parks is a professor of leadership, literacy, and social foundations in the College of Education and Human Services at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where she has also served as department chair in Educational Leadership and Policy and previously as associate dean of the college. She earned her PhD in curriculum and instruction (curriculum and supervision with emphases in minority education and educational foundations) from the University of Iowa, following earlier degrees including a BA in Speech/Drama Education from Iowa State University. Her scholarship focuses on issues of power, privilege, and oppression in curriculum, with particular attention to the use of high‑quality literature in K–12 classrooms.

Penick-Parks is coeditor of several works on race, equity, and education, including The Guide for White Women Who Teach Black Boys and Teaching Beautiful Brilliant Black Girls, as well as Everyday White People Confronting Racial and Social Injustice: 15 Stories and The Diversity Consultant Cookbook. She serves as a lead editor for the online journal Understanding and Dismantling Privilege and appears in the documentary film Mirrors of Privilege: Making Whiteness Visible by World Trust.
